Gary graduated from Shanghai University with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, and later obtained his master degree in industrial engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the MBA degree from Hong Kong University. He has 28 years of experience in safety, health and environmental management in multinational companies. In his career he has worked for General Motors, Intel, and General Electric with relevant management responsibilities. He is currently responsible for the safety, health, environmental and sustainability management of all AstraZeneca supply sites in the Asia-Pacific region.
